A 4,000m+ plateau sitting between Sichuan's famous snow mountains.
About Yuzixi
Yuzixi is a plateau sitting above 4,000m and acts as the perfect high-altitude 'park' so-to-speak between Gongga and Yala mountains.
Head to the southernmost side of the plateau for stunning views of Gongga mountain, or head more to the eastern side for a more wild view of Yala.
Because of where it sits, it's become a popular spot to sit and watch the sunset, with the golden sun hitting the peaks around you.
Spots on Yuzixi
There are multiple different areas that people will use to watch the sunset on the plateau:
Gongga Platform: This are tends to be the go-to for Gongga - with it being closest to the 'king' of the mountains.
Camping grounds: This is a bit far from Gongga, but you'll be have views of the most famous of Sichuan's mountain peaks on each side of you. Get here by searching for "Yuzi Xi Starry Sky Yingdi" on your map
Gedi Lamu Tiankong Zhicheng: This side of the plateau is less popular than the others, getting you closer to Yala than the other mountains. There are a few photo props laying around for you to play around with though to add a different element to your images from here.
Getting to Yuzixi
There are 2 main approaches to Yuzixi and, as usual with Sichuan, I recommend a SUV car to gain access from either one.
The 'main' entrance from the South near Xinduqiao is the most popular as the town there is one of the main spots people stay in, while the road on the Eastern side closer to Yala is a bit more hidden - making it generally the quieter option.
Note that the area can end up a bit busy during the summer months so I'd aim to arrive a bit earlier if you're hoping to catch the sunset.
