One of the core sights to visit along the shores of West Lake, Leifeng Pagoda is a city must.

About Leifeng Pagoda

Originally built in 975 AD for King Zhongyi's favorite concubine, Consort Huang, the pagoda has undergone quite a few rebuilds in its time after its collapse.

Climb to the top for great views of the lake below.

The Story of the White Snake Spirit

The pagoda has been enshrined in legd thanks to the story of the White Snake Spirit tale.

In the tale, a white snake and a blue snake use supernatural powers to take on the form of beautiful ladies. One falls in love with a local scholar and, after failed salvation attempts, the scholar and his wife are imprisoned in the tower by an evil monk.

Eventually, the other snake defeated the monk and tore down the tower to free her friends.
