A homestay up in the mountains next to Tibet? Definitely.
About the Homestay
There’s no official ‘hotels’ in this village yet, but the growing popularity of the Xuedahu lake among landscape photographers has meant there’s a need for accommodation - and the villagers have stepped up to the plate.
This particular family have 2/3 really nice rooms with a big window facing the mountains about 400 meters from the lake - making it an easy walk for sunrise.
Let them know what time you fancy dinner and they’ll put together some local dishes for 50 rmb per person and are open for a chat if you want to ask about village life.
As the hotel doesn’t really exist, you can message them directly on wechat by: (it may be worth messaging in Chinese using a translator as I’m not sure they will know how to use the translation feature on WeChat)
Room Price:
500rmb ish. The price will likely depend on season and whether they are busy or not but the general amount will be around here.
What to do if they have no rooms
As I said, the village won't show up on Trip or any of those other sites, and so it's all based on word-of-mouth of other travelers.
If this family say they have no more rooms left, the easiest is to just ask them to ask a neighbor. From our wanderings around, it seems like half of the villagers are looking to transform a spare room into a homestay vibe and so they will likely be very happy to recommend you a WeChat contact of theirs to stay with.
