Perched at the highest point of the city, the Duomo is the crown jewel of Matera, standing proudly between the two ancient Sassi districts. As you make your way up the winding streets to reach it, you'll be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking panoramic views the city has to offer, especially as the sun begins to set. Inside this 13th-century Apulian Romanesque masterpiece, you'll find a surprisingly ornate interior, a stark and beautiful contrast to the ancient stone city outside. A small admission fee is required for tourist visits, which is well worth it for the experience.
