Pieramoha (Pobeda) Cinema is one of Minsk’s most iconic movie theaters—a true architectural gem in Soviet style, located at 20 Internatsionalnaya Street in the historic city center. Originally opened in 1950, Pobeda was built on the foundation of earlier monastery and club buildings, and designed by renowned architects Iosif Langbard and Mikhail Baklanov, famous for their monumental approach to post-war architecture.

The cinema is a vivid example of Stalinist Empire style: its grand four-columned façade, elegant classical detailing, sweeping Corinthian columns, ornate stucco work, and impressive ceiling height give visitors a sense of the atmosphere and charm of Soviet Minsk. Inside, you'll find massive chandeliers and classic wooden furniture—all preserved and enhanced during the cinema’s recent, major renovation.

In 2024, the Pobeda Cinema fully reopened after an extensive restoration. Specialists revitalized the building’s exterior and interiors, restored plasterwork, ceiling paintings, old doors, and updated technical equipment to modern standards. Now, Pobeda operates as a comfortable, state-of-the-art multiplex with five screening halls, accessibility for people with disabilities, and the latest sound technology.

Locals fondly remember Pobeda as a classic date spot and a place where generations came for premieres and events. Today it continues the tradition, showing a wide range of films—including international art house hits and Belarusian cinematic classics—in a space where the past and future of cinema meet beautifully.

Practical tips for tourists:

  • The cinema’s location is perfect for exploring central Minsk’s other Soviet and pre-revolutionary landmarks.

  • Admission prices remain very reasonable, and the cozy foyer café is a great spot for coffee before or after your film.

  • Even if you’re not catching a movie, it’s worth stopping by to admire the architecture and snap a photo of the restored façade.

Pobeda Cinema is one of Minsk’s best experiences for travelers interested in culture, Soviet history, architecture, or just enjoying a cozy night at the movies.
