The National Art Museum is Minsk’s top spot for art lovers and one of the largest museums in Eastern Europe. With over 30,000 exhibits, it offers a rich collection of Belarusian and international art — from ancient icons and tapestries to modern paintings, sculpture, and graphic works.

Founded in 1939, the museum’s collection grew thanks to donations from famous Russian museums and art treasures from historic Belarusian castles. The building itself is an impressive example of Soviet architecture and features a beautiful glass dome, spacious galleries, and restoration workshops you can visit on a guided tour.

The museum regularly hosts special exhibitions, art workshops, and cultural events, plus there’s a cozy art café attached for a break. The permanent collection spans works from European, Russian, and Asian masters alongside local Belarusian artists, including rare pieces and icon paintings.

Located right in the city center at 20 Lenina Street, it’s easy to reach by metro (Oktyabrskaya or Kupalovskaya stations) or by bus. Admission is affordable, and audio guides in several languages make for a great experience even if you’re not an art expert.

If you want a taste of Belarus’s culture and creativity, the National Art Museum is a must-see while exploring Minsk!
