If you want the best panoramic view of the city, this is the place to go. I’d recommend coming after lunchtime the light is softer, there’s no harsh sun, and it’s still perfect for photos. Stay a bit longer to catch the sunset; once the city lights turn on, it feels truly magical.

In summer, don’t forget a hat, there isn’t much shade up there. In winter, dress warm: it’s a hill, and it can be noticeably colder than in the city. And don’t miss the quirky Beatles statue while you’re there.

The cable car takes you to the top of Kok Tobe Hill, where you’ll find a small amusement park, a kids’ zoo, plus cafés and restaurants.

If you’d rather skip the relatively expensive cable car, you can take bus 95 or 99 to their final stop on Omarova Street, then hop on a minivan to the top. Just keep in mind this option can get quite crowded.
