This was probably the most touristy thing we did in Thailand but taking a boat tour in Krabi is simply just a must do, especially if you've never done a boat tour in Thailand before. Two of the most popular routes are either to the Hong islands or a "4-island tour". I wouldn't recommend more than 4-5 island stops or the tour will start to become very rushed.
You can find plenty of tour operators in both Krabi Town and by Ao Nang Beach selling boat tours, as well as plenty on GetYourGuide.
However, we decided to do it a bit differently.
We spoke to a few tour sellers in Krabi town as well as searched the options on GetYourGuide. I think the cheapest tours I saw was around 35€/pp and that was for a (large) group tour.
So instead we literally walked up to a boat parked by the harbour in Krabi town and asked if they could take us and we agreed upon 2250 baht for a private tour the next day. 😂🙌🏻
Since we were 4 people this came out to about 15€/pp and for a PRIVATE tour.
This is the harbour we went to in Krabi Town: 8°03'58.2"N 98°55'03.6"E.
Our driver was super friendly and he brought water, fruit and snorkelling gear for us.
We were unlucky with the weather but we still had an amazing day out!
❗️Note that the price won’t include the national park fee of 200 baht/pp that you will have to pay when you arrive at your first stop.
❗️❗️Please DO NOT feed the fish on the tour! If anyone offers you fruit to feed the fish please decline. It seems fun and harmless but these are coral-cleaning fish and if they get fed by tourists they will not clean the corals as much, causing the coral reefs to slowly wither and die.
So please don't contribute to this! Just watch the beautiful fish instead, and wear reef-safe sunscreen too. 💛
