Ironically, this ended up becoming one of our favourite places in Chiang Mai. After months of travelling we loved the idea of being able to do some "normal activities" again, so when we learnt that there was a great cinema in the Maya Mall, we jumped on the chance.
The cinema only costs 3€/pp and is clean, modern and high-end, just like the rest of the shopping centre is. It almost felt like being back in Europe! The shopping centre is however almost exclusively filled with locals.
I personally loved the Thai cinema ads so much. Be aware that in any cinema in Thailand there will be an honouring to the royal family before the movie starts. Normally I read that you're meant to stand for these but here no one did. Just follow the lead of the locals and you'll be fine!
Don't miss the food court on the bottom floor! There is even a jay restaurant with delicious food, great prices and a super friendly and funny owner that speaks amazing English. She started calling me "sis" and Tom "mate" after learning he was from England.
Best way to get to this mall is by driving as it is a bit out of the way, but it is possible to walk too! If you don't have a moped and don't want to walk you can also find one of the red songthaews of Chiang Mai to take you, or order a Grab.
