Rockville Air Station, located in Iceland, was a United States Air Force radar station that operated from 1951 to 1998. Its main mission was to monitor and intercept Soviet aircraft passing through the GIUK gap towards the Atlantic Ocean. After its closure in 1998, the site was used by the Icelandic government as a drug rehabilitation facility before being abandoned. Today, the radar towers are gone, and all buildings have been removed, leaving behind a piece of Cold War history in the Icelandic landscape.
