Jökulsá á Dal, also known as Jökulsá á Brú or Jökla, is a river in northeast Iceland. It used to be 150 km long, making it the longest river in the region, but now 25 km of it is part of a man-made lake for a hydropower plant. The river's flow has been reduced, and it can't be forded due to its strong current. The first bridge was built in 1625, and a newer one was constructed in 1994. In the novel "Independent People" by Halldór Laxness, the main character crosses the river on a reindeer.
