Breckenridge, CO, United States

Breckenridge’s high altitude means cold temps, strong sun, and fast-changing weather. Layers and waterproof gear are essential.

Clothing Essentials

Base Layer (Moisture-Wicking)

  • Thermal top (Fleece or merino wool. I prefer non-synthetic options but synthetic is typically more affordable)

  • Thermal leggings

  • Ski socks (tall, wool or performance blend. Avoid cotton)

  • Compression socks (This isn’t necessary but I find that at higher altitudes, this can help with overall comfort and reduced swelling)

Mid Layer (Insulation)

  • Fleece jacket or insulated pullover

  • Lightweight down or synthetic jacket

Outer Layer (Waterproof & Windproof)

  • Waterproof ski/snowboard jacket

  • Waterproof ski/snowboard pants or bibs

  • Insulated option if you run cold

Other

  • Waterproof gloves or mittens

  • Neck gaiter or balaclava (this is great on snow days & colder temps)

  • Helmet

  • Goggles (low-light lens for snow days + sunny lens if possible)

  • Beanie

  • Hand & toe warmers (Hot Hands or you can buy rechargeable ones!)

  • Sunglasses

Footwear

  • Snow boots with good traction

  • Warm casual socks

  • Flip-flops (optional for hot tubs)

  • Post-snowboarding/skiing boots (I LOVE these boots from Outdoor Research)

High-Altitude Must-Haves

  • High-SPF sunscreen (30+ or higher)

  • SPF lip balm

  • Face moisturizer

  • Small backpack for snacks & water

  • Reusable water bottle

 On-Mountain Extras

  • Snacks

  • Portable charger

  • Trail map screenshot (cell service can vary)

Gear (If Not Renting)

  • Skis or snowboard

  • Boots

  • Poles (for skiers)

  • Helmet

  • Goggles

  • Gear bag

  • Ski lock (helpful during lunch breaks. My friend had her snowboard stolen a few years ago at a different resort, it happens!)
