If you're planning to do a full lap of Rottnest Island on a bike, like I did (and highly recommend!), make sure you stop at Cape Vlamingh Boardwalk, the island's westernmost point. This spot holds a special place for me because I captured one of my favorite coastal photos here (it's the second pic in this collection). The boardwalk itself is a short stroll but offers stunning views of the island's rugged coastal cliffs and panoramic vistas of the Indian Ocean.

During my visit, fellow travelers tipped me off about potential seal and sea lion sightings, but I only managed to spot a few snakes and lizards—no marine life this time! Nonetheless, Cape Vlamingh Boardwalk is renowned for its rich biodiversity, with opportunities to observe native flora, fauna, and unique bird species nesting along the cliffs.

It's also a prime location for whale watching during migration seasons, where majestic humpback whales and other marine creatures can often be spotted offshore. Educational signage along the boardwalk provides insights into the island's natural history and ongoing conservation efforts, adding depth to your visit.
