Camping in Yellowstone in late August?

Tip: Plan for both hot and cold weather during this season.

Be prepared for both warm days and very cold nights. I camped in Yellowstone at the end of August thinking it would still feel like summer, but I was not prepared for how cold the nights were. During the day, the weather can feel warm and sunny, but once the sun goes down, temperatures can drop a lot, especially if you are camping.

Pack layers, a warm jacket, thick socks, and proper sleeping gear. It really feels like summer ends earlier in Yellowstone, so don’t assume late August means warm nights.
