Bukchon Hanok Village is one of Seoul’s most charming neighborhoods, filled with hundreds of preserved traditional Korean houses (hanok) dating back to the Joseon Dynasty. Unlike museums, these hanok are still lived in—many operate as cultural centers, cafes, guesthouses, and artisan shops.

The name Bukchon means “northern village,” since it’s located north of Cheonggyecheon Stream and Jongno. Historically, this area was home to aristocrats and high-ranking officials during the Joseon era.

This is a residential neighborhood: Though this is a big touristic draw in the city, do understand that this is still a residential neighborhood so visitors should be respectful and not walk into the homes unless there are obvious signs letting you know you can come in.
