Safety Tip #4

Cartagena is HOT. It is hard to describe the heat unless you go there and truly experience. Expect to be hanging inside in the heat of the day and only really exploring and doing things in the morning and the nights. I would recommend you find a hotel or an airbnb with a nice pool, because you are going to need it.

Some important things to bring:

• bug spray

• sunscreen

• Bug Spray (especially if you go to Barú)

Do people dress up nicely?

Yes, a lot of people dress up and look nice. That said, you don't have to and you will be totally fine!

Can I wear shorts?

DEFINITELY in Cartagena. It is too hot to wear anything, but shorts or something light and flowy.

Can I wear flip flops?

This is definitely less common, but yes!!

Should I wear heals?

You'll find a lot of cobble stone roads in Cartagena. If you decide to wear heals, be careful!
