Whether you’re after fine dining, countryside kitchens, or seafood, Cornwall’s restaurant scene is packed with standout spots
I am such a foodie, and spend pretty much my entire life compiling lists of the best restaurants in Cornwall that I want to visit! I really need to research every single option in an area to make sure I'm visiting the best..! With the cost of living being so high, I always want to make sure if I'm going to treat myself to a meal out it is worth it!
I have places that are my go to for special occasion meals, the Pig in Harlyn Bay is where I have celebrated most of my recent birthdays and I think they do an incredible job of making you feel special, and the food is outstanding!
For small, sharing plates - the Pickled Plate in Higher Harlyn and Counter Culture in Newquay are my two absolute favorites and some of the best, and most fun food in Cornwall!
I have a separate travel tip on 'cheap eats' focused more on burgers, pizza and street food, but here I've tried to collate all the best restaurants for a special meal out:
🌊Coastal Dining With a View
Ardor (St Ives) – Stylish, elevated plates with beachside views and a laid-back luxe vibe.
North Street Kitchen (Fowey) – Casual harbourside eatery with fresh seafood and small plates.
The Hidden Hut (Porthcurnick Beach) – Famous for its simple but exceptional beach feasts, also a great spot for lunch (the dahl is insane!)
Idle Rocks (St Mawes) – A boutique hotel restaurant with fine views and a seasonal tasting menu, one of the best views in St Mawes! I'd recommend going at high tide.
Prawn on the Lawn (Padstow) – Seafood-focused, small plates with Asian twists – book well ahead.
Ugly Butterfly (moving to Newquay July 2025) – Adam Handling’s creative fine dining, formerly in Carbis Bay.
🌿Countryside Gems
Crocadon Farm (St Mellion) – Farm-to-table food in a charming rural setting, often with open-fire cooking. This has been on my list to do for forever! They also have a bakery on sight!
Coombeshead Farm (Lewannick) – A working farm and guesthouse with a set menu and hyper-local produce. Quite close to the A30 for a nice stop on you way into cornwall!
St Kew Inn (St Kew) – A rustic inn with a great garden and locally-led seasonal menus. Does a fantastic Sunday Roast and has a lovely garden to sit in the summer!
New Yard (Helston) – Ethical dining in the Trelowarren Estate, offering a refined, ingredient-led set menu. The setting is absolutely beautiful!
🐟Seafood-Focused & Harbour Favourites
Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar (Newlyn) – A local legend for small plates and no reservations.
Argoe (Newlyn) – A modern take on Cornish fish dishes, beautifully plated with Scandi-inspired simplicity.
Harbour House (Flushing) – A warm, welcoming spot serving creative dishes and great wines.
Kota (Porthleven) – Fusion flavours from chef Jude Kereama in a stylish harbourside setting.
The Sardine Factory (Looe) – Award-winning, family-friendly seafood with a focus on local catch.
🍷Refined & Special Occasion Dining
Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 (Padstow) – Elegant Michelin-starred dining with a warm Cornish soul.
The Pig at Harlyn Bay (near Padstow) – Kitchen garden-led menus in a relaxed, boutique hotel setting. One of my absolute top recommendations!
The Shore (Penzance) – Intimate and ingredient-focused dining from chef Bruce Rennie.
The Mariners (Rock) – Paul Ainsworth’s stylish pub with exceptional pub classics and seafood.
The Rocket Store (Boscastle) – Intimate, rustic space serving seasonal small plates and natural wines. Another top recommendation!
Temple (Bude) – Modern and inventive dining with a youthful energy and local sourcing.
🥂 Relaxed Dining With Character
Four Boys (Rock) – Creative small plates and natural wines with a chilled-out, beachside vibe. Has also been on my list for forever to try!
Culture (Falmouth) – Contemporary bistro with a strong wine list and inventive plates.
Café Rojano (Padstow) – Lively Italian and Mediterranean-inspired menu, good for groups or a casual treat. I highly recommend the pizza, we also often come with Vegan family members and they enjoy!
The Pickled Plate (St Merryn) – A friendly restaurant near Padstow serving local produce with flair. This is a bit of a hidden gem, and absolutely fantastic!
