The Ugly Butterfly in Newquay is one of the best restaurants in town. If you're looking for a special-occasion meal or simply a great night out while on holiday, this should be at the top of your list. Adam Handling originally opened the restaurant in Carbis Bay, and it moved to Newquay in 2025 (lucky Newquay!). It’s now located at the Headland Hotel, with stunning views over Fistral Beach.

They use only ingredients sourced from the South West of England—working with local fishermen, farmers, and suppliers—to keep the menu hyper-local and fully traceable. They offer a 9-course tasting menu, a 4-course restaurant menu, and a terrace menu for a slightly less pricey night out (which can be enjoyed in the bar or out on the terrace, and I promise the burgers are the best you’ll ever have!). They also serve afternoon tea.
