Step back in time at the Phaistos Archaeological Site, one of Crete’s most important ancient landmarks. Located on a hill with views of the Messara Plain, this site was home to the magnificent Minoan Palace of Phaistos, dating back to around 1900 BC.

The palace was a key center of the Minoan civilization, known for its advanced architecture and intricate artifacts. One of the most famous discoveries here is the Phaistos Disc, a mysterious clay tablet with undeciphered symbols. Though the original is in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, the site itself offers plenty to marvel at, including the remains of grand staircases, courtyards, and storerooms.

The entrance fee is €8 per person, and the site is open daily from 8 AM to 7 PM. Information boards help bring the history to life, and there’s a small café nearby for refreshments. Wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain is uneven, and visit early to avoid the midday heat. Don’t miss the panoramic views.
