Tucked away along the north coast of Crete, just east of Bali, the Glaros Beaches are a collection of small, lesser-known coves nestled beneath coastal cliffs. If you're road-tripping along this part of the island or staying nearby, these beaches make a peaceful and uncrowded alternative to the bigger, more developed spots.
The sea here is typically calm, clean, and a deep shade of blue, with a natural coastline that feels far from the tourist trail—even though you’re never too far from the road.
What You Need to Know
These are non-organized beaches, mostly made up of pebbles, rock shelves, and crystal-clear water. There’s no signage or obvious entry point—just narrow dirt paths that lead from the old national road down toward the sea. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see a car or two pulled over and a faint trail leading through the brush.
What You Need to Do
Swim in Complete Silence: On calm days, the water is perfectly transparent and still—ideal for floating or meditative swims.
Snorkel Along the Rocks: Bring your own gear; you’ll find plenty of small fish and underwater rock formations to explore.
Read, Rest, Repeat: These beaches invite slow moments—there’s no rush here.
Catch a Sunset or Moonrise: The view eastward and out to sea makes these spots quietly beautiful during golden hour or after dark.
Beach-Hop by Car: Explore a few coves along this coastal stretch—each has its own shape and feel.
How to Get There
By Car: Drive east from Bali on the old national road. Watch for unmarked pull-offsalong the coast and look for narrow paths leading down. Some spots are easy to miss, so go slow and be curious.
You walk about 15 minutes to the beach
🧭 GPS Note: These beaches aren’t always named on the map. Try searching for "Glaros Beach" or "Paralia Glaros", but know that locals often refer to the whole stretch collectively.
What to Bring
Water, snacks, and sun protection—there’s no infrastructure here
Beach shoes (some spots have pebbles or rocks)
Snorkeling gear or goggles
A light beach towel or mat
A sense of exploration
Glaros isn’t one beach—it’s a feeling: quiet, rugged, and beautifully unmarked. If you’re looking for a pause between places, a swim without a soundtrack, or a moment to just sit and watch the sea, this is the stretch of Crete you want.
