Aspri Limni, meaning "White Lake," is one of Crete’s most unique and lesser-known beaches. This hidden gem lies just 500 meters west of the Chrysoskalitissa Monastery and 70 km southwest of Chania. While many people go to the nearby exotic Elafonissi Lagoon, few are aware of this stunning, secluded spot.

The beach features fine white sand with scattered rocks and is surrounded by jagged formations, giving it the appearance of a small, whitish lake within the sea. Fortunately, Aspri Limni remains untouched by tourism, preserving its unspoiled beauty. However, there is no natural shade in the area.

To reach Aspri Limni, take a right turn in Chrysoskalitissa village and follow the signs leading to the small Phoenix theophrasti (Cretan date palm) habitat surrounding the lake.

Aspri Limni is a Natura 2000 protected area, as it is the westernmost habitat of Phoenix theophrasti, Crete’s endangered native palm tree. This species is also found in other palm groves across the island, such as Vai, Preveli, Agios Nikitas, and Souda, as well as in small colonies in southern Turkey. Among these, the Vai palm grove is the largest.
