The Anydri Gorge is a small yet impressive canyon located east of Paleochora. It serves as a natural drainage path, collecting water from the Asfendiles region and the ancient settlement of Hyrtakina via the Dichalomata stream.

The gorge begins in the picturesque village of Anydri and winds its way through a 3 km serpentine route between towering cliffs before opening up to the stunning Gialiskari Beach. The hike takes approximately 1-2 hours depending on your pace.

You have a choice: you can start from the beach and gradually ascend, or you can start from Anidri and descend towards the beach.

A Pleasant and Easy Hike

The hike through Anydri Gorge is relatively easy, as the path follows the dry riverbed, which typically lacks water during the summer months. However, due to the limited tree cover and the rocky terrain, it is highly recommended to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun because there is no shade.

You'll also encounter a variety of Cretan plants during the hike.
