Komolithi, also known as the Sand Dunes, is a unique and fascinating landscape in Crete near the village of Potamida. These strange-shaped dunes were formed over thousands of years due to erosion of soft clay soils. Scientists believe that this area was once underwater millions of years ago, explaining the presence of marine fossils and unique geological materials. Visitors can explore the pyramid-like slopes, which are mostly bare with small bushes at their summits, creating a striking contrast against the surrounding fertile fields. It's a cool spot to check out if you're in the area!
