The Varghis Gorges are 4km long and can be visited on marked tourist trail either near the water that flows through the gorges or on the circuit that climbs the rocky slope of the gorges. Whichever option you choose, it is an exceptional destination which we highly recommend.
At river level, the route can be done by any hiker, the difficulty being low. If you climb to the upper level of the cliffs, the effort will be rewarded with exceptional views.
Take a light with you, because along the route you will encounter several caves that are worth exploring. All together, there are 122 caves in Varghisului gorge
It would not hurt to have bear spray and a whistle with you because bears live in the area. However, they are peaceful and if you walk through the gorges during the tourist season, you probably won't encounter these bears even if you want to, they are avoiding human contact.
The gorges are located in an area with ethnic Hungarians, the area being known for its culinary delicacies. Try the dairy products from local farms or the langos pie, specific to the area.
This picturesque gorge, with its dramatic cliffs and lush greenery, offers a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
It's a perfect escape for anyone looking to connect with nature and enjoy some fresh mountain air.
