This modern wellness retreat (and hotel) is perfect to unwind and rejuvenate in a serene setting. Officially the Cape East Spa is not on Finnish grounds, since it lays right across the border in Haparanda, Sweden. But Haparanda-Tornio is a special twin-city, connected by a bridge to Finland. Because of the time difference between these two countries, you can actually celebrate new years here twice, if you just cross the bridge after midnight!

The spa offers a range of treatments using ingredients from the northern nature, providing a unique and relaxing experience. With modern accommodations and a warm atmosphere, Cape East is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and indulge in some well-deserved pampering.

I have visited many wellness resorts and spa's during my travels, but this one definitely deserves a spot in my top 5. Not only do they have many different sauna's and plunge pools, they also have a very unique open-air sauna staircase, right in the middle of the building. The views over the Torne river are stunning and they serve amazing food. You can even stay for the night in one of their comfortabel rooms.

If you are planning on visiting Kemi or want to celebrate New Year's twice this year in Haparanda-Tornio, this is definitely a very nice place to add to your itinerary. Especially if you are planning to explore Finland with a rental car.
