Explore the magic of Lapland with the arctic dogs! If you think of Lapland, you think of reindeers and husky's. Safartica is offering sledge rides with both, but this time I opted for a husky ride.

You can make a small sledge ride in the forest (5km) or a long arctic safari (15km). We went for something in between and choose the ride of 10km which was more then enough to enjoy the experience.

Although Safartica is a large tour operator, It looked like the dogs were well taken care of. However, I did notice that a lot of the dogs were not husky's, so that's something to keep in mind. Personally, I also think the tours of 15km are a little bit to long for the dogs and also to enjoy it yourself if it's very cold.

If you want a more authentic (and cheaper) experience, visit the Konijänkkä farm in Äkäslompolo (which is also on my map). We did a short reindeer sledge ride there, but they also have husky's and horses. This farm is run by locals and they offer very family friendly visits and only short rides with the animals. Its especially perfect for families with little ones.
