Safety:

Crete is exemplary in terms of safety: it is one of the wealthiest regions of Greece and there is no overcrowding. Not to mention the soothing natural surroundings and the pleasant climate.

Why would Cretans be violent?

The Cretan people are aware of their cultural heritage and are quite proud of it. Beneath their sometimes gruff exterior, Cretans show great warmth towards visitors.

Earthquakes:

Crete is subject to frequent but often minor earthquakes, as it is situated on two tectonic plates. Here are some recommendations if you experience an earthquake during your stay:

1. If you are inside a building:

- Remain calm and do not rush outside

- Protect your head and face

- Do not use the elevator or try to get out as quickly as possible

- Move away from glass surfaces, tall furniture, mirrors...

- Take shelter under a table or desk

2. If you are outdoors:

Stay away from windows, buildings, and power lines

In all cases, there is no need to worry; at worst, you will feel a slight tremor.
