Palaikastro Minoan Town is an extensive Minoan settlement in far eastern Crete, near the modern village of Palaikastro. Known archaeologically as Roussolakkos, it was once a thriving coastal town with strong links to trade, agriculture, and daily life during the Minoan period.
Unlike palace complexes, Palaikastro reveals the structure of an entire town—streets, houses, workshops, and courtyards—offering a more human and grounded view of Minoan civilisation. The open landscape and proximity to the sea help place the ruins naturally within their original environment.
Local tip ⭐: Visit early or late in the day to avoid heat, and combine your stop with nearby beaches like Kouremenos or Chiona for a perfect history-and-sea balance.
🌿 Eco note
This is a fragile archaeological site. Stay on marked paths, avoid touching or climbing on ruins, and take all rubbish with you. Respectful visits help preserve Palaikastro’s quiet character and historical value.
