Finding a place to stay long-term in Bali can be more expensive and confusing than expected.

Living in Bali has become significantly more expensive since I first arrived, so I know first-hand how challenging it can be to find an affordable place to live long-term.

For most people, the best option in the beginning is to stay in a guesthouse or to share a villa with others. Guesthouses are usually a great starting point both financially and socially. You can easily find and book accommodation in Bali through platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com, which are the most commonly used for both villas and guesthouses.

As a general guide, you can expect:

  • Guesthouses: around 8–9 million IDR per month (good value range)

  • Private rooms in houses/villas: around 12–15 million IDR per month (standard price range depending on area and condition)
