Emergency Services In The U.K.

  • Emergency services: The number is 999, the switchboard can connect you to the ambulance, fire, police, Coast Guard and mountain rescue, you should only call 999 in a serious emergency

  • Mountain rescue is the most likely emergency service required for hikers

Remember ETHANE

If you need to call for help (999), you can summarise the situation using the acronym ETHANE:

  • Type of incident

  • Hazards (terrain, weather conditions)

  • Access (what’s the easiest way to reach you?)

  • Number: of casualties

  • Emergency services - which ones are needed?
