My all time favorite Minnesota state park, this is a must visit, especially in spring. Waterfalls tumble through a dramatic volcanic gorge on their way to Lake Superior. You can take an easy half-mile loop right from the Highway 61 to see the main series of waterfalls, feeling the mist on your face from the overlooks. For a bit more adventure, follow the trails further upriver—a popular 3.5-mile loop will take you up to Lookout Mountain for stunning views over the lake and surrounding forest. It's a place of constant sound and motion, perfect for both a quick, breathtaking stop or a longer day of exploring the rugged trails.
