Hey! đŸ’»â˜•

If you’re heading to Madeira to work remotely, you are going to love it. Being able to close your laptop and immediately go grab a poncha or head up into the mountains is the absolute best.

But let’s be real for a second-you can’t just walk into any random snack bar on the island and expect fast internet or a quiet corner for a client call. To save you the headache of dropped Zoom calls and hunting for power plugs, I’ve put together this simple list of the absolute best places to get work done in Funchal and Ponta do Sol.

1. Top Coworking Spaces for Heavy Workdays 🌐

When you have major deadlines or a calendar full of video meetings, skip the cafes and head straight to these proper workspaces:

  • Sangha Cowork (Lido, Funchal): This is the biggest and most modern spot in Funchal. The internet is incredibly fast (around 200 to 1000 Mbps), the chairs are comfortable, and they have proper phone booths so you can take private calls without any background noise. It costs around €15 for a day pass.

  • Madeira Friends Hub (Central Funchal): Run by a great local community group, this spot is right downtown. It’s a bit smaller but super friendly, easy on the wallet, and perfect for meeting other travelers. They also have a nice outdoor terrace for when you need a screen break.

  • Ponta do Sol Coworking Space (Ponta do Sol): This is the main hub for the famous Digital Nomad Village. It’s located inside a cultural center right in the middle of town, and guess what? It is 100% free to use. Just get there early because it fills up fast, and pack a sweater to sit on since the chairs are just standard event chairs!

2. Laptop-Friendly Cafes with Great Vibes ☕

If you just have a light day of answering emails, planning projects, or casual typing, these cafes are totally cool with you working from your laptop:

  • Art Food Corner (Central Funchal): A super popular spot for the remote work crowd. They have solid Wi-Fi, a massive shared table built for laptops, and plenty of plugs along the walls. Plus, their brunch food and specialty coffee are amazing.

  • Land Food & Coffee (Funchal Center): If you like a calm, quiet environment, this place is perfect. It’s a beautiful minimalist cafe with stable internet and a peaceful little courtyard. People generally keep their voices low here, making it easy to focus.

3. Sweet Spots to Work with a View 🌊

Want to make everyone back home a little jealous during your team chat? Give these places a try:

  • Cowork Funchal Courtyard (Old Town Funchal): While this is a fully indoor coworking hub, they have an awesome half-open courtyard. It has a big roof canopy so the sun won't glare on your screen, letting you enjoy the warm air while you type.

  • The Old Pharmacy / A Velha FarmĂĄcia (Ponta do Sol): This is an old village pharmacy converted into a casual bar. The Wi-Fi reaches the outdoor tables on the cobblestones perfectly. It's not the place for an intense corporate meeting, but it is an unbeatable spot to finish up some light afternoon work with a glass of local wine while watching the sunset hit the cliffs.

A Few Quick Tips Before You Start... 🎒

  • Cafe Etiquette: If you’re working out of local spots like Art Food Corner, remember to order a coffee or a bite to eat every hour and a half or so to keep things fair for the business.

  • Check the Weather: Before you drive down to Ponta do Sol to work in the sun, check the NetMadeira live webcams online. It can be completely grey and rainy on one side of the island while the sun is fully shining on the other!

  • Getting Around: To easily explore all these different spots without relying on the slow public buses, you'll definitely want your own wheels. I always recommend booking through Rent X [insert link]—they have great, affordable cars that can actually handle the steep island hills easily.

Good luck with the workload, keep that internet connection stable, and enjoy working from paradise! đŸ„‚âœš
