Perched on the dramatic cliffs overlooking Tramore Bay, the Metal Man is a sight to behold. This striking figure was erected as a maritime beacon after a terrible shipwreck in 1816, and his outstretched arm still warns ships away from the hazardous coastline. The walk to see him up close is an adventure in itself, starting from Newtown Cove car park and following a rugged, and at times treacherous, cliff path for about 15-20 minutes. Be aware that access is complicated as it's on private land and the path is not maintained, so tread carefully, especially as the cliffs are unprotected.
