Tucked on the edge of Sheephaven Bay near Creeslough, Doe Castle is a striking example of a medieval tower house set against the wild beauty of Donegal’s coastline. Dating back to the 15th century, the castle has a rich history, having served as a stronghold for the McSwyne clan and later as a strategic site in the region’s turbulent past.

The castle is remarkably well-preserved, with its stone walls, corner towers, and moat offering a tangible sense of its defensive purpose. Visitors can explore the interior and ramparts, imagining life in a bygone era, while the surrounding grounds provide a serene setting overlooking the sheltered waters of the bay.

Doe Castle is ideal for history enthusiasts, families, and photographers. Its combination of historic architecture and scenic coastal backdrop makes it one of Donegal’s most picturesque and accessible castles. Walking along the bay or exploring the castle grounds, you can enjoy both the cultural significance and the natural beauty of the area.

Note: The castle is open seasonally, and while much of the site is easily accessible, care should be taken on uneven stone surfaces. Weather can be changeable, so warm clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended.
