Just off the main road, you'll find one of Connemara's most iconic sights: a perfect little island of pine trees sitting peacefully in Derryclare Lough. It's a quick stop, but the view against the backdrop of the Twelve Bens mountain range is absolutely breathtaking. While you can admire it from the shore, a short, uneven stone causeway leads to the island itself, though be prepared for very boggy and wet ground, so proper footwear is a must. The walk from the small roadside car park only takes a few minutes.
