Connor Pass is one of those drives in Kerry that stays with you long after you’ve left it. Winding its way between Dingle and Brandon Bay, it’s the highest mountain pass in Ireland, and you feel that sense of height almost immediately as the road begins to climb and narrow.
I remember taking it slowly, partly because the road is tight in places, but mostly because the views keep pulling your attention outward. Looking down over the lakes and valleys below, with mountains rising sharply on either side, the landscape feels raw and expansive. Even a brief stop at one of the pull-ins gives you that feeling of being right in the middle of the terrain.
What I liked most about Connor Pass was how changeable it felt. Light, cloud, and weather can completely transform the view in minutes, and that unpredictability adds to the experience rather than taking away from it. On a clear day, the views stretch all the way to the sea, but even in mist, it feels atmospheric rather than disappointing.
Connor Pass isn’t a drive to rush. It’s one to take carefully and deliberately, letting the landscape set the pace. For me, it was one of the most memorable stretches of road in Kerry, not because of speed or drama, but because of how close and alive the surroundings feel.
