Set within the sweeping landscape of the Sperrin Mountains, Nowanois the Storyteller commands attention as one of three remarkable giant sculptures hidden among the hills. Crafted from natural materials by artist Thomas Dambo, this towering wooden figure blends into the surrounding countryside while still sparking immediate wonder. Positioned thoughtfully within the landscape, the sculpture feels both ancient and imaginative, as though it has always belonged there.

Unlike many outdoor artworks, Nowanois combines creativity with local identity. Inspired by the geology, folklore, and cultural heritage of the Sperrins, the sculpture reflects a deep connection to place. The contrast between the giant’s playful character and the vast, rugged scenery around him makes the encounter especially memorable.
