As you make your way along the spectacular Ring of Kerry, there’s a simple roadside stop that I can’t recommend enough. I remember pulling in for the first time and being immediately struck by the view, sweeping across the bay toward the rugged silhouettes of Scariff and Deenish Islands, with sheep scattered across steep, rocky hills that tumble down to the Atlantic. It felt like a perfect snapshot of Kerry’s wild, coastal beauty.
What I loved most about this stop was how easy it is to pause and just take it all in. Stepping out of the car, feeling the fresh sea breeze, and listening to the distant crash of waves makes you slow down and really appreciate the scale of the landscape. I found myself lingering longer than planned, moving along the layby to catch slightly different angles and light, and snapping photos that still remind me of that moment.
It’s a small, unassuming spot, but it perfectly captures the rugged charm of the Ring of Kerry, dramatic coastline, open skies, and those classic hills dotted with sheep. Even if you only stop briefly, it’s one of those views that stays with you long after you’ve driven on.
Note: The layby is right off the main road, but it can fill up during peak season, so be patient and take care when stopping.
