Inverness Castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the River Ness in Scotland, has a long history dating back to 1057. The current structure, built in 1836, stands on the site of the original castle and is a Category A listed building. With its red sandstone walls and early castellated style, the castle has witnessed sieges, royal visits, and even served as a meeting place for county councils. Today, it remains an iconic landmark in Inverness, featured on the reverse side of a £50 note issued by the Royal Bank of Scotland. Scheduled to reopen to the public in 2025 after extensive renovations, Inverness Castle continues to be a symbol of Scottish history and heritage.
