❄️ Visiting Yellowstone in Winter
Winter Closures
Shelby Bridges
Yellowstone, United States
Most of Yellowstone’s roads close to regular vehicle traffic during the winter, typically from early November through late April (weather dependent). However, that doesn’t mean the park closes. You can still experience Yellowstone by taking a guided snowcoach or snowmobile tour into the interior of the park.
If you’re visiting with your own vehicle, the road from Gardiner → Mammoth Hot Springs → Tower-Roosevelt → Cooke City remains open year-round (weather permitting). It’s one of the best winter drives in the park and offers excellent opportunities to see bison, elk, wolves, foxes, and other wildlife against a snowy backdrop.
