One of the most important landmarks in Oman and absolutely worth visiting before starting your road trip. Even if you’re not usually into architecture, this place is still insanely impressive, purely because of its scale!

The mosque can hold around 20,000 people and took six years to build, using materials sourced from all over the world - including marble from Italy and a massive Swarovski chandelier inside the main prayer hall. The carpet here is one of the largest Persian carpets in the world (around 60 x 70 meters).

Important notes

  • Open to non-Muslim visitors Saturday to Thursday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The mosque is closed to tourists on Fridays.

  • There's a strict dress code: women have to cover arms, legs, and hair, and men have to wear long trousers and sleeved shirts. They enforce this strictly!

  • Backpacks are NOT allowed
