Common Tourist Mistakes in Porto
Small things that can affect your trip
Foodietravellersguide
Porto, Portugal
One of the biggest mistakes visitors make is trying to rush Porto too quickly.
The city is smaller than Lisbon, but the hills and slower food culture mean days take longer than expected.
Common mistakes include:
Overplanning too many food stops in one day
Only staying around Ribeira
Wearing uncomfortable shoes on cobbled streets
Eating dinner too early at quieter local restaurants
Assuming every famous spot is automatically the best
Porto works best when you leave room for spontaneous cafés, wine bars and viewpoints.
Another mistake is underestimating how filling Porto food can be, especially dishes like francesinha or hearty rice dishes.
Tip: some of the best meals in Porto are in small, old-school local spots that look very simple from the outside – don’t judge places by decor alone.
