Eat Later Than You Think

Porto dining times are later than expected

Porto, Portugal

Porto generally eats later than many visitors expect.

Lunch is commonly:

  • Around 12:30–2:30pm

Dinner usually starts:

  • Around 7:30pm onwards

  • Many local spots get busiest after 8pm

If you eat too early, some restaurants can feel empty or not fully open yet.

On the other hand, extremely popular food spots may already have queues by peak dinner time, especially on weekends.

For petiscos and wine bars, locals often order gradually rather than having one huge meal immediately.

Tip: if a restaurant is famous and doesn’t take reservations, try going slightly earlier for lunch instead of peak dinner hours.
