Payments & Money

  • Czechia uses the Czech Koruna (CZK) however some places do take the euro for a small premium.

• Use card wherever possible. Prague is very card-friendly.

• If you need cash, never exchange money on the street.

• Only use official exchange offices and always check the small print and rates before agreeing.

• When withdrawing from an ATM, always decline the conversion rate so your bank sets the exchange.

• Avoid Euronet ATMs completely. They often have poor rates and high fees.

🍽️ Dining & Tipping

• Don’t expect overly attentive or chatty service. That’s not really part of the culture and doesn’t mean bad food or attitude.

• Tipping around 10% is normal if the service is good.

• You’re not obliged to tip if the service isn’t great.

🚋 Public Transport

• Public transport is easy, affordable, and efficient.

• Trams and the metro cover most of the city.

• Always validate and check your ticket. Fines are common and inspections are frequent.

🚖 Getting Around

• Download Uber or Bolt. They’re usually cheaper, more reliable, and easier than local taxis.

• Be cautious with traditional taxis. Some can overcharge tourists, especially without a meter.
