Seville Runs On Its Own Schedule

Seville, Spain

One of the quickest ways to end up eating in tourist traps is trying to eat at the wrong time.

Many kitchens close between lunch and dinner service, especially outside the most touristy areas.

As a rough guide:

• Breakfast: 8am-11am
• Lunch: 1:30pm-4pm
• Dinner: 8:30pm onwards
• Peak local dinner time: 9:30pm-11pm

You’ll also hear people talk about the afternoon siesta.

While not everybody goes home and sleeps, many smaller businesses still close during the hottest part of the afternoon, particularly in summer.

If you’re planning shopping, markets or sightseeing, check opening hours carefully.

Our favourite approach is:

  • Quick breakfast (sometimes just a coffee) and sightseeing in the morning

  • Long lunch and a break during the hottest hours

  • Tapas hopping in the evening

Seville really comes alive after dark and some of the city’s best atmosphere doesn’t begin until 9pm.
