What you'll do

This iteniary is just right for you if you are traveling over the weekend and want to see the most beautiful places in a short time.

Day 1

The bridge is a real highlight and looks extremely good. Since it is right next to the road, there are a lot of tourists there, which is why you should stop by relatively early in the morning. If you can't make it in the morning, you can try to come back at sunset, when there is usually a lot less going on.

Ponte dei Salti

Beautiful bridge over Verzasca River

This is probably the most beautiful bridge on the planet. The bridge is over 400 years old and looks unique over the turquoise Verzsaca River. In my opinion, it is a 100% must-see if you are traveling to the region. I would also recommend walking down to the river as the stones have a beautiful and unique texture and you will find many different perspectives.

However, as the bridge is of course a highlight, there can sometimes be quite a lot of tourists there. This is especially the case in the high season or at weekends and even more, when the weather is nice. In summer many people swim in the river or jump into the water from the bridge. Therefore, come here early in the morning or late in the evening, when it is much less busy (if the weather is bad during the week, you may also be lucky around noon).

if you want to walk along the river, you can, walk from the bridge to Corippo (it is also possible to take the bus back afterwards). check the hike

Lavertezzo

Vibrant Swiss village paradise

In my opinion, Lavertezzo is one of the most beautiful places in the valley. Directly in front of the restaurant "Osteria Vittoria" you have a wonderful view of the church with the beautiful blue river in the foreground. If you drive just a few hundred meters further you will find the most beautiful bridge in Ticino (and maybe even in the whole world ;-)).

Various hikes start in Sonogno and you will also find a restaurant and some accommodation there. I would definitely recommend you to visit the “La Froda” waterfall. Feel free to check out the other options if you want to go on a longer hike.

Sonogno

Charming Swiss Village Delights

Sonogno is a beautiful village. One of the highlights here is the wonderful church, which can be photographed from many different angles. If you want to take a short walk to a great waterfall, I recommend a visit to the waterfall "La Froda".

If you want to do a longer hike you have two options:

Waterfall

Cascata La Froda

Stunning Valle Verzasca waterfall

beautiful waterfall that is easy and fast to reach. Park your car in Sonogno and just follow the road through the village. From the parking to the waterfall it's around 1.5km (one way). You can take here cool shots with the camera and drone. Dont forget your tripod and ND Filters if you want do some longexposure shots :-).

  • If you are interested in a longer hike, you can also walk further to a small mountain village (to the full hike)

  • Park your car here.

At the end of the day I would visit the beautiful village of Corippo, you can also stay overnight and have dinner there.

But, if you want to visit Foroglio the next day, I would rather stay near Foroglio. In this case you can also come to Ascona/Locarno and eat there if you want.

Corippo

Historic Swiss mountain village paradise

Corippo is a small village with only a few inhabitants, but it is definitely worth a visit. It is not easy to get there, as there is only a very narrow road and it can be quite narrow if there is oncoming traffic. There is a turning area at the end of the road behind the church, and there are a few parking spaces in front of the church (but very few). Stroll through the alleyways and let the silence work its magic on you. A highlight is the small fountain overlooking the church.

  • There is also a viewpoint; go past the church on the left as you enter the village and follow the path (to the viewpoint).

  • if you want to walk along the river, you can, walk from Corippo to the most beautiful bridge in the region (it is also possible to take the bus back afterwards). check the hike

You can stay for example overnight here which is close to Foroglio, then you can get to the small village really quickly. If you stay overnight in Ascona-Locarno you should plan at least a 45 minute drive.
