đCape Town
Green Point â My Top Recommendation
If I could recommend just one neighbourhood to stay in Cape Town, it would be Green Point. Itâs central, walkable, and perfectly positioned between the V&A Waterfront, Sea Point, and the City Bowl. Youâll find excellent cafĂ©s, restaurants, boutique hotels, and easy access to the Green Point Urban Park and promenade. Most of Cape Townâs top attractions are within a 10â20 minute drive.
Perfect for: First-time visitors, solo travellers, food lovers, couples, and anyone looking for a stylish, central base.
Sea Point
Sea Point is one of Cape Townâs most vibrant neighbourhoods, famous for its oceanfront promenade, lively cafĂ© culture, and beautiful sunsets. Itâs an excellent choice if you enjoy morning walks by the ocean and having plenty of restaurants, supermarkets, and coffee shops within walking distance.
Perfect for: Digital nomads, longer stays, active travellers, and anyone who enjoys a lively neighbourhood.
V&A Waterfront
If convenience is your priority, the Waterfront is an excellent choice. Youâll be within walking distance of shops, restaurants, museums, boat tours, and family-friendly attractions. Itâs one of Cape Townâs busiest areas, making it ideal for travellers who like having everything on their doorstep. Just note that during peak season there can be a lot of traffic into and out of V&A Waterfront.
Perfect for: Families, luxury travellers, and short stays.
Camps Bay
If your dream holiday involves beach days and unforgettable sunsets, Camps Bay is hard to beat. This glamorous seaside suburb is home to one of Cape Townâs most iconic beaches, with the Twelve Apostles mountain range as its backdrop.
Perfect for: Beach lovers, couples, honeymooners, and luxury travellers.
Gardens & Tamboerskloof
These leafy neighbourhoods sit at the foot of Table Mountain and offer a more relaxed, local feel. Youâll be close to Kloof Streetâs restaurants and cafĂ©s while enjoying quieter streets and charming boutique accommodation.
Perfect for: Food lovers, couples, and travellers looking for a neighbourhood with character.
đJohannesburg
Rosebank â My top recommendation
Rosebank is my favourite area for visitors. Itâs modern, walkable, and home to great restaurants, cafĂ©s, shopping, and the Gautrain, which connects directly to the airport.
Perfect for: First-time visitors, business travellers and solo travellers.
Sandton
South Africaâs financial hub offers luxury hotels, upscale shopping, and plenty of dining options. Itâs polished, convenient, and a great base if youâre looking for premium accommodation.
Perfect for: Luxury travellers and business trips.
Melrose Arch
A secure mixed-use precinct where you can easily walk between hotels, restaurants, cafés, and shops without needing to drive.
Perfect for: Couples and travellers looking for convenience.
đDurban
Umhlanga â My top recommendation
If itâs your first time in Durban, Iâd choose Umhlanga. Itâs clean, modern, and offers beautiful beaches, an oceanfront promenade, fantastic restaurants, and a wide range of accommodation.
Perfect for: Families, couples, solo travellers and anyone looking for a relaxed beach holiday.
Ballito
Located just north of Durban, Ballito is a favourite for its beautiful beaches, coastal walks, and laid-back holiday atmosphere.
Perfect for: Families, surfers and travellers planning a road trip along the Dolphin Coast.
Durban North
A quieter residential area with boutique guesthouses, easy access to the beach, and a central location for exploring the city.
Perfect for: Longer stays and travellers wanting a more local experience.
