Daisho-in Temple on Miyajima Island is a mystical Buddhist complex with a rich history dating back to the 9th century. The temple hosts traditional fire-walking festivals twice a year, where brave participants demonstrate their faith by walking on hot coals.

PS - It's a bit of a climb and inconvenient to get to, but well worth it and away from most crowds!
