As one of the largest lakes on the South Island, this is a stop you CANNOT MISS!

Lake Pukaki Viewpoint is a quick, roadside stop that delivers stunning, turquoise water with Aoraki and the Southern Alps as a backdrop, so plan for a short visit of 15 to 30 minutes for photos and soaking it in. You can pull off State Highway 8 into a small car park and a very short, mostly flat walk takes you to the best vantage. It can be very windy and much cooler than nearby towns, so dress in layers and check road conditions in winter. For photos, the light is best in the morning and late afternoon, and remember drone use is regulated, so check local rules before you fly!

This is also a free camp spot!
