Riisitunturi, a place of incredible natural beauty right here in Finnish Lapland. In winter, it transforms into a fairytale landscape, with spruce trees cloaked in thick, frozen snow, a phenomenon we call 'tykky'. It's a photographer's dream. There are trails for all levels, but a local favorite is the Riisin Rääpäsy trail, a 4.3-kilometer loop that offers some of the best views and takes you through the heart of this magical forest. It's a moderate walk, easily done in a couple of hours, and the trailhead is just a short walk from the main car park.

During summer it's also great to do the longer 10km loop that takes you through forest and mires. Be aware of possible muddy and very wet parts after the rain.

During winter it gets rather crowded. Tour operators from different regions bring travellers here for day tours. The trail is always in good condition. It is also a great opportunity to take the snowshoes or backcountry skis out and explore a bit off trail.

• It is advised to have experience driving in harsh winter conditions. The forest road is long and can get very narrow. It might not be plowed yet in the morning. From experience I see multiple cars stuck in the ditch every trip I take there in winter. in this case, a trip with a tour operator and experienced driver is recommended.
